Turtle water tanks may be on the way out in Texas

TEXAS – If you are wondering what to do when the water in your home or office tanks runs low, it’s not too late to start thinking about your water conservation options.

Water conservation experts say the time is now.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued a notice of proposed rulemaking that will determine whether to remove the state’s water-conservation law, which requires residents to take precautions to keep their drinking water safe.

That means the tanks you use to drink and bathe your pets may soon be replaced with plastic or metal ones.

“You might not need a water tank,” said Dr. Mark Cavanagh, who has worked in water conservation for more than 30 years.

“But you do need to have a plan.”

The EPA’s proposed rule would allow residents to replace their tank tanks with “new, high-quality” or “low-risk” tanks that have been approved by the state, he said.

Those tanks would have to meet certain standards, such as being made of a certain material and not exceeding the federal standard for corrosion protection.

They also would have a water treatment system that would be “well-suited to meet water quality standards,” the EPA said.

While many people are familiar with the concept of water conservation, the EPA is proposing a new rule that requires residents of the United States to take steps to make sure their water stays safe.

“I think that it’s very important to take action now to save our drinking water,” said Mike Zoll, executive director of the Texas Water Development Board.

The proposed rule will be voted on in the Texas Legislature, and could go into effect as early as this year.

While it is still too early to say whether residents will be able to take advantage of the new rule, Cavanah said they will have a better idea of how much time it will take to replace the tanks once the EPA has finalized the rule.

Cavanagh said that even though the rule is not as clear as it is with the water conservation law, the agency’s announcement will make it easier for people to conserve water.

“The sooner you start, the sooner you can do it,” he said, adding that he expects many of his clients to be in the water tank business.
